Democracy 100

Across the country local communities, civil society organisations and government bodies are leading diverse democratic renewal efforts. However, these efforts remain fragmented, under-supported, and often unrecognised, with advocates, innovators, and funders increasingly asking how to connect and amplify their efforts.

In response to this context, a new partnership has formed called Democracy 100 | Mapping 100 ideas to strengthen Australia's democracy, which seeks to explore alignment on democratic innovation opportunities among a diverse group of civil society and government bodies. Over a series of roundtables, Democracy 100 aims to: .

  • Map the landscape of democratic innovators and organisations across Australia to lay the groundwork for a stronger, ongoing national network
  • Crowdsource 100 ideas and actions which are strengthening democracy and addressing today’s challenges
  • Understand the needs and priorities of democratic innovators for the next 1, 5, 10 years.
  • Set out a future strategy to mobilise coherent, collective action to strengthen Australia’s democracy

Democracy 100 project partners include the Mannifera funding collectiveAustralian Democracy NetworkDusseldorp Forum and local partners in each state. The roundtables are designed and facilitated by Dr Bree Trevena (ARUP) and Dr Tristan Schultz (Relative Creative) with strong expertise in strategic foresight methodologies and systems mapping.

Roundtables were held in Adelaide and Perth in November 2025, with Melbourne and Sydney to follow in February 2026. Dates for additional roundtables in Brisbane, Darwin and Hobart will be confirmed in early 2026.
